I couldn't sleep, so I decided to watch the Tomorrow War starring Chris Pratt on Amazon Prime... Wow. I couldn't believe how bad this movie was. It's full of plot holes, leaps of logic and cringe-worthy tropes.
Time travel stories in general are hard to write and pull off due to the causality rules which limit the story (The future soldiers travel 30 years in the past to recruit average people to fight aliens in their future. Why not just kill the aliens before they spread. The future soldiers know the general area and time when the aliens first appear) and mis-usage of future tech. (If they have the technology to build a stable wormhole for repeated time jumps, why don't they have weapons that can kill these thick skinned aliens.) It made my head hurt how many plot holes there were from the start to finish.
The overall special effects were great. The alien creatures were menacing and powerful, and the action sequences were fine, except for the final hand-to-hand combat with the alien queen in the snow. That wasn't well thought out or executed. (Machine guns barely slow these monsters down, but Chris Pratt armed only with a claw fights off the alien queen in the end. WTF?)
The first half was fine and entertaining. But the second half of the story just went down the toilet. It just got dumber and dumber to the point, I had to stop watching and walk away. I eventually had to watch in three chunks because the story was so awful and bland toward the end.
I'll give this movie a "C+", only because I liked the action sequences in the first half of the movie.
